GETTING THERE

Karlovac is located in central Croatia, at the intersection of important road, rail and bus routes. It is easily accessible from Zagreb and from neighbouring countries, making it a convenient starting point for the Camino Karlovac.

By Plane

The closest international airport is Zagreb Franjo Tuđman Airport (ZAG), approximately 60 km from Karlovac, or about 45 minutes by car. From Zagreb Airport, you can continue to Karlovac by car, bus or taxi.

By Car

Karlovac is well connected to Zagreb and neighbouring countries by major international roads.

The main international road routes include:

  • Trieste – Ljubljana – Zagreb – Karlovac
  • Graz – Maribor – Zagreb – Karlovac
  • Klagenfurt – Ljubljana – Zagreb – Karlovac
  • Budapest – Varaždin – Zagreb – Karlovac

 

Karlovac is also directly connected to Zagreb by the A1 motorway, making the city easily accessible from other parts of Croatia.

By Bus

The Karlovac bus station is located in the city centre, on V. Holjevca Street, approximately 5 minutes’ walk from the historic Karlovac Star.

Regular bus services connect Karlovac with Zagreb and other Croatian cities, while international connections are also available.

By Train

Karlovac has two railway stations.

The main Karlovac railway station, located in the Banija area, is approximately 15 minutes’ walk from the city centre. A taxi rank is available outside the station.

Karlovac Centar station is located close to the main bus station and is approximately 5 minutes’ walk from the city centre.

Useful tip for Camino pilgrims: If you are arriving by public transport, both the bus station and Karlovac Centar railway station are particularly convenient, as they are located close to the city centre and the beginning of your visit to Karlovac.
