From Biorine to Cista Velika, south of the modern roadway, lies a preserved ancient road that used to connect Trilj and Imotski. Developed in prehistoric times, the first serviceable road was built by the Romans in the 1st century AD. Near the Pištet pond, several prehistoric tumuli (mound – tomb) still remain.

In the Middle Ages, during the 14th and 15th centuries, cemeteries with stećak tombstones were built along the road, characteristic tombstones best known for their unique shapes and decorations – depictions of crosses, the new moon and stars, lilies, hunting scenes, battles, tournaments, carts.
