Red Lake is named after the reddish tint of the almost vertical rocks around it. The measured height difference is 528 m, with a depth of 287 m – which according to the data ranks it among the deepest lakes in Europe.

It is known that the lake was formed by the collapse of the vault above the pit, but there is also an interesting legend about Gavan’s court.

According to legend, in ancient times there were court above the lake that collapsed into the ground, and the lake was formed in that place.
