It is believed that Njivice is the oldest village on the island. Even Though Njivice had been mentioned in a land grant of one of the Frankopan family members, back in 1474, historians believe that it had existed since the ancient times.
Like in other island villages , local economy was mainly based on fishing, olive growing and agriculture until 1930, when the first hotel was opened, starting the tourism development.
Njivice are known for its freshwater lake, but also for a 1200m long promenade by the sea. Here you can also enjoy numerous beaches.
Except for its natural gems, Njivice hosts a lot of events, such as Firework rhapsody, fishermen’s fiestas, concerts …
