The mediaeval church of Saint Lucia has an extremely important place in the Croatian history and culture. In 1851, during the church renovation a tablet was found with an inscription of the Royal grant to the local monastery written in the Croatian language using it’s unique script. The stone tablet is dated from 1100 AD which makes it one of the first preserved written records in Croatian language.The replica of the tablet can still be seen in the church today.
The church itself is an astonishing piece of architecture the windows are set in such a way that the sunlight illuminates the altar in a spectacular way. The natural light is reflected inside a church on specific religious holidays.
