Known since Antiquity as “The Golden Island” the island of Krk is a fascinating gem of nature, culture and history.
Spectacular and diverse sights of nature , from lovely picturesque beaches to stunning promenades near the sea in the shade of the pine trees, hiking paths among the drywalls marking the local fields and olive groves all merge in a unique pearl of nature.
The island is a true cradle of Croatian culture with remarkable cultural treasures accumulated through centuries. It is famous for nurturing the authentic glagolitic script , the oldest known Slavic alphabet.

The mediaeval church of Saint Lucia  has an extremely important place in the  Croatian history and culture. In 1851, during the church renovation a tablet was found with an inscription of the Royal grant to the local monastery written in the Croatian language using it’s unique script. The stone tablet is dated from 1100 AD which  makes it one of the first preserved written records in Croatian language. The replica of the tablet can still be seen in the church today.

The church  itself is an astonishing piece of architecture the windows are set in such a way that the sunlight illuminates the altar in a spectacular way.  The natural light is reflected inside a church on specific religious holidays.
