When entering a small church of San Esteban next to the pilgrim hostel at Zabaldika, one is immediately struck by a large crucifix, surrounded by yellow and green Post-it notes. Looking closer one can see that they are all arrow shaped. Each bears a pilgrim’s testimony, a prayer or a testimonial. All visitors are given a few pages with short prayers and spiritual commentaries on Camino and life. The welcome is warm, with open arms and with a lot of love.
Those that wish to climb a bell tower, are invited to ring a bell from the 14th century. Just to ring it once or twice and to listen afterwards. After all it is written; knock and it shall be opened … ringing a bell can have the same effect.
In the afternoons at the old church choir there is a pilgrim meeting with sharing of experiences, a joint prayer or a song.
